QuadGrips and related products are manufactured in Winfield KS.
The QuadGrips and “shift on the fly” designs are the “brain child” of James Watson a C-6/7 Complete Quadriplegic (Tetra). Injured in a auto crash in 1996 James has been cyclist most his life and a handcyclist since 1998. Along with his wife Tammy they live in the quaint Kansas town of Winfield. Aside from developing products for people with disabilities, they also volunteer for a local area non-profit Wheelchair Sports INC. James has been on the board of directors since 2004 when he and his wife Tammy started the adaptive cycling program. James directs the program there with great support from Tammy.
James began riding on an old school XLT with no adaptive grips. After trying to squeeze and then tape to keep his hands on he began his journey of finding a better way to power his handcycle. With the purchase of his first handcycle(a 99 XLT) came the first experiment in the path to “QuadGrips”. Not wanting to have to “reinvent the wheel”. It took trying all the grip designs available and always coming back to his basic design idea. Many of the first versions were “Frankenstein-ish”, but laid the ground work for the QuadGrips of today.
Beginning his racing career in 2001 with the Wichita Marathon James realized the grips and shifting were his Achilles Heel. Limiting his placing in races to last much of the time and average speeds of 10 to 12 mph. With the creation of his first real unique design and “shift on the fly” version in 2004, James began to find his speeds and placing improving. The improved ability to pull as hard as he wanted combined with shift on the fly and wider hand spacing made climbing his strong point with almost instant 2 mph improvement. More gains as time went on moved him from last to many first places and several championships with a few “Stars and Strips” Jerseys and a PR avg of 18.3mpg for a 15k TT.
After years of requests and encouragement from customers, friends and family, Tammy and James turned the hobby of making QuadGrips and other custom products for others into a business. Although James’ work on designs and custom products does not garner him the training time to race at that level these days, he still races and rides recreationally with friends and family. He comes up with many of the designs while riding his bike.

If you have a grip issue, you probably know that you can push as hard as you want. However when it comes to pulling, if you can’t grip, you can’t pull.
QuadGrips provides you ability to pull, and pull hard. With no Velcro straps the pull is solid and limited only by your own strength. Many QuadGrips users had already tried the other grips available and were not satisfied with the lack power, restricted hand movement, having hardware attached to their hands or replacing Velcro or other parts.
Although initial cost may be higher, money is saved over time making QuadGrips the best purchase. Buyers report that after switching to QuadGrips they were MUCH more powerful with gains in speed. Sometimes several MPH. Another positive comment is that they have new ability to climb hills they had always struggled with before switching to QuadGrips. Shifting on the fly with ease and being able to take their hands off the grips at will, even while riding are other things customers comment about. We are confident that you will enjoy these same benefits with your own set of QuadGrips.
